Imperial Guard for the Win!!

This is Patrick here, the resident diehard Guard player. Every now and again I will be posting some new and old tactics that I use or find. Any one else is welcome to post, as long as its tactics or the discussion of those tactics.

I apoligise not for my spelling, as I know it is crap.

I should have a new trick or two up every week here at the Guard forum.

Yeah, that's rough, being the "resident diehard" player for a broken codex.

Could you also create a "How to Beat Me" thread? Seems useful.

That would be nice as I could get some tips on beating Huckaby. Im tired of him kicking my ass!

there are alot of ways to play guard, so to counter them u have to give us a idea of what Mr Huckiby uses

@CrimsonWraith: I cannot count the number of time I have watched people go after the chimeras instead of the Leman Russ variants or the other chimera chassis heavies.

Space wolves can be competitive but they don't bring the same brutality that the other codex's I listed do.

Its all target priority. Its a tough skill to master, I've been playing Tau for 9 years, and still get baited.
Baiting is another fine skill for IG players. Kill what you want to kill, not what they want you to shoot. You don't have to kill it, a stunned or shaken tank is as useless as a wrecked one(at least for a turn). Come back to it, make the next one not shoot you. 2 shaken tanks do far less than 1 wreck and 1 unscathed tank.

As for Space Wolves, that is a whole other thread.

a good tip is to get there heavy tanks with range, and lock anyone who can give orders in combat at least get there main HQ sqaud locked, but becarful they are no push overs for guard. If u can shoot them to death more power to you

I think that the space wolves validation as one of the best codex's atm has been proven what with the standings at adepticon.


IG are not broken by any means. And to lord Murphy's credit He was playing IG long before they got so amazing and started winning a few big events. By the way other then ard boys where they have 2500pts worth of big tanks when was the last event that IG moped up and was not beaten by some space marine variant?
