Im debating getting one to work on my tanks. It is quite time consuming to paint them by hand heh at least the base coat anyway

I have one, and use it occasionally on tanks and mass squad painting. I like it, but every time I try and have someone else use it, it doesn't work Embarassed

Airbrushes Or Paint Brushes? Empty
PostSubject: Re: Airbrushes Or Paint Brushes?   Airbrushes Or Paint Brushes? EmptyTue May 10, 2011 6:56 am

I was poking around a Colorado Springs store's forum and found a guy who does a lot of airbrush work.
http://www.gamershavenco.com/forums/showthread.php?14884-Some-Paint-Jobs%28pic-heavy%29&p=60800#post60800

In one of his threads he said he does almost all his painting with the airbrush, then details with a hand brush. He mastered his hand brush skills, then added the airbrush and mastered that.
He keeps a blog, so there may be some good technique info in there.

If this is where you are looking to go with air brushing, DO NOT BUY THE GW BRUSH!
Don't buy any siphon brush. Grab a dual action gravity fed brush. Single action siphon fed brushes are a can of spray paint, this guy uses an artists tool. There is no learn on the cheap stuff then get a better one, they are to very different animals. Do some homework, there are TONS of resources. There are also guys who do AMAZING things with an air brush.

I normally use spray cans because all i want to do is base coat. And with army painter stuff there is no need for me at least to airbrush a army because i just buy the relavant spray can and go to town. I dont think its worth it for how I paint. But try it if you think it will help you!

Yeah that is what I would do except that Army Painter does not have a purple spray paint and I am having a hard time finding a non gloss purple spray paint so i was looking at airbrushes. definitely have to do some research.

What would be your recommendation for those interested in purchasing an airbrush? My friend has an iwata brand airbrush; it works rather well, especially for vehicles.

Iwata is a good brand. I recommend a dual action, gravity fed, internal mix air brush. Other options are cheaper and will paint your base coats, but don't leave much room to move forward. Then you end up like me, on your second airbrush and still don't have the features I would like.

CrimsonWraith is on to it. Dual action gravity feed internal is the best way for miniature painting. I personally use a pasche talon and I have several badger 155s and a 151 (siphon fed for larger application). I've used alot of different airbrushes but the talon is the best by far. Iwata is a top brand and I know many people who use them.

I run on a industrial compressor with a massive tank so it doesnt run when I paint late at night but you can get small desktop compressors for cheaper

depends on what you mean by 'airbrush paint'

I use reaper master series and vallejo (the same stuff you paint with a brush) thinned for airbrushing for miniatures. I use PlamoUK lacquers (an actual airbrush paint) for models

I personally just use whatever GW paint or P3 paints I have. I got a little droper bottle and mixed 50/50 windex and water and you add that to the paint until its the same consistency as milk. With GW paints I have noticed its almost a 50/50 mix with the thinner and 75/25 with the P3 paints.
